About Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing is a birth preparation method that uses a combination of self hypnosis, relaxation, breathing and visualisations to release fear and gain confidence, so on the birth day the mother can let her body do what it is naturally designed to do.

Fear and tension are the main reasons women experience pain during labour. Fear puts us in freeze-flight-fight mode and produces adrenaline, and adrenaline slows the birth process.

A calm and relaxed mindset favors the production of oxytocin, one of the main hormones required for labour to progress.

Think about our fellow mammals: they give birth in small, dark and quiet places, where they feel safe and unobserved. We retain the same instinct, we need to feel calm, safe and protected, we need to know that it is safe for us to bring our most precious thing, our baby, into the world.

Hypnobirthing gives you the tools to create the right environment for you to give birth into, it gives you the knowledge to be in control of what you can during birth, and let go of what you cannot, it gives you the confidence to work with your body, and not against it, and the positive mindset to thoroughly enjoy the birth process, whichever the circumstances.

Hypnobirthing is very useful for birth partners too. They have a very important role during birth, they are there to support the mother, and create and protect the calm space for her to give birth into.

And it is beneficial to the baby. In my courses I talk about the importance of what happens during the all important golden hour, the first hour after birth.

The Katharine Graves Hypnobirthing (KGH) course has been developed and perfected over the years by Katharine Graves, who has taught hypnobirthing to over 2,000 couples.

A KGH course not only gives  you the hypnobirthing information, but also the knowledge to understand your options and the implications of the choices you make, and it gives you the information to get the best of the system in which you find yourself.

The benefits of hypnobirthing:

  • You are likely to experience a more comfortable, calm and relaxed birth.

  • The length of labour can be shorter.

  • You are less likely to require pain relief.

  • You will be equipped with the knowledge and understanding to ask your healthcare providers questions and make informed choices.

  • Birth partners learn how to best support you and work with you and your baby as a team during childbirth.

  • Your baby will be borne gently, calm and content in a relaxed environment.
